Job description

Purpose of the Position:

The Excavator Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating excavator equipment to support a variety of construction activities including trenching, digging, leveling, site preparation, and loading. The operator must ensure strict compliance with company policies, safety standards, and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Operate excavators to perform tasks such as trenching, earthmoving, grading, digging foundations, demolition, and backfilling as required on construction sites.

·         Perform daily inspections and preventive maintenance checks on equipment before and after operation, including checking fluids, hydraulics, tracks, and attachments.

·         Identify and report any mechanical problems or equipment defects to the maintenance team for timely repair.

·         Collaborate closely with site engineers, surveyors, riggers, and supervisors to ensure precise and safe excavation in line with site plans.

·         Comply with all safety standards and operational procedures; use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

·         Maintain accurate logs and records of tasks completed, machine operating hours, fuel usage, and maintenance activities.

·         Operate equipment in a manner that ensures efficient fuel consumption, minimized wear, and safe use.

·         Assist with loading trucks, clearing debris, and transporting site materials when necessary.

·         Monitor ground conditions and adapt operations to varying soil types and weather conditions to avoid cave-ins or accidents.

·         Set up and break down job sites safely and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding areas.

·         Adhere to environmental and safety regulations, including erosion control and minimizing dust and fuel emissions.

·         Conduct periodic cleaning of excavator equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

·         Follow site-specific instructions for excavation around existing infrastructure such as water lines, electrical cables, and sewer systems.

·         Coordinate with flaggers or signalers during restricted or high-traffic operations to ensure safety for all workers.

·         Assist in training or mentoring less experienced operators when requested by supervisors.

·         Maintain readiness to work flexible hours or overtime as project demands require, including weekends and holidays.

·         Relocate machinery between job sites when needed, ensuring equipment is secured and transported safely.

·         Support the general labor team during equipment downtime or when assigned by the supervisor.

Skills and qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

Part-time and full-time job openings

• Valid excavator operator license or certification.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in operating excavators on construction sites.
• Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operations, safety protocols, and basic maintenance.
• Familiarity with various types of terrain and excavation techniques.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions from supervisors and site plans.
