Purpose of the Role

The Mobile Crane Operator will be responsible for safely operating mobile cranes to lift, move, position, and place equipment and materials as per the construction requirements. This role is crucial to ensuring safety, efficiency, and timeliness in site operations.

Key Responsibilities

·         Operate mobile cranes safely and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and safety regulations.

·         Conduct daily pre-operation checks, including inspection of brakes, controls, fluid levels, cables, and lifting gear to ensure readiness and safety.

·         Lift, move, position, and place heavy construction materials, tools, and equipment as directed by site supervisors.

·         Collaborate with riggers, signalers, and lifting supervisors to ensure all lifts are performed according to the site lift plan.

·         Maintain an accurate logbook and equipment service record to track usage, inspections, and repairs.

·         Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and minor maintenance to ensure optimal crane performance.

·         Report any mechanical faults, safety issues, or equipment damage immediately to the maintenance team or site supervisor.

·         Set up crane properly, including outriggers, counterweights, and other support systems, ensuring stability and safe operation on all terrain types.

·         Monitor load limits and avoid overloading to prevent accidents and equipment damage.

·         Ensure lifting operations are conducted within permitted zones and avoid working under power lines or unsafe areas.

·         Comply strictly with company safety policies, site regulations, and national occupational health and safety standards.

·         Adjust operations based on site conditions such as wind, ground stability, or visibility.

·         Follow instructions from the lifting plan and adapt quickly to changes as per project needs.

·         Assist with crane dismantling and relocation between sites when required.

·         Attend safety briefings, toolbox talks, and relevant crane operation training sessions.

·         Promote a culture of safety and proactive communication within the lifting team and broader construction crew.

·         Ensure crane is securely parked and locked when not in use, with booms lowered and equipment properly stowed.

·         Maintain professionalism, discipline, and respect in all site-related interactions.

Skills and qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid Crane Operator license or certification (from a recognized authority).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating mobile cranes in construction or industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of crane load charts, lifting capacities, and safety protocols.
  • Physically fit and able to work long shifts in outdoor construction environments.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
