Job description

. Purpose of the Position:

The Loader and JCB Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery including front-end loaders and backhoe (JCB) machines to support construction, excavation, and material handling activities across project sites. This role ensures the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the equipment in accordance with site requirements and safety protocols.

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Operate Loader and JCB (Backhoe Loader) equipment to perform tasks including but not limited to excavation, trenching, backfilling, grading, leveling, site clearing, and material transportation as per project requirements.

·         Perform routine pre-start and post-operation checks of equipment including inspection of tires/tracks, hydraulic systems, lights, brakes, fluid levels, and attachment functionality to ensure optimal performance and safety.

·         Carry out basic maintenance such as fueling, greasing, cleaning air filters, checking oil, coolant levels, and tightening loose parts, reporting any abnormal signs immediately.

·         Coordinate closely with site supervisors, engineers, and safety officers to ensure smooth workflow aligned with project deadlines and operational plans.

·         Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring machines are parked safely, work areas are free of obstructions, and environmental protocols (e.g., dust suppression, spill control) are followed.

·         Load and unload construction materials, equipment, and debris safely, ensuring proper balance and load distribution during movement and transport.

·         Maintain accurate daily operation logs, fuel usage records, and report working hours and job completion summaries to the line manager or project supervisor.

·         Follow proper communication protocols using hand signals, radios, or verbal instructions to coordinate with other workers on-site.

·         Support the team during emergency situations, such as recovery of stuck equipment, flood control measures, or urgent repairs when required.

·         Ensure professional conduct on site, including wearing proper PPE, maintaining punctuality, and demonstrating respect to colleagues and company assets.

·         Prevent unauthorized use of equipment and ensure machines are locked and secured when not in use.

·         Participate in waste management practices, including proper disposal of used oils, filters, and cleaning materials to minimize environmental impact.

Skills and qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid operator license or certification for heavy machinery (Loader and JCB).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in operating loader and/or JCB in construction or related fields.
• Proven knowledge of heavy machinery operations, maintenance, and safety practices.
• Ability to work under pressure and in varying weather and site conditions.
• Basic mechanical knowledge is an added advantage.

• Physically fit and able to work in field conditions.
• Flexibility to move between project sites as needed.
