Position summary

Pharo Secondary School in Sheikh is seeking a compassionate, qualified, and dependable School Nurse (Female) to support the health and well-being of our students and staff. The ideal candidate will providehigh-quality healthcare, promote health education, and contribute to a safe and supportive school environment.

Location: Sheikh, Somaliland

Contract Type: Fixed Term - One year (possibility of renewal)

Key Responsibilities:

•       Provide first aid, emergency care, and health assessments for students and staff.

•       Manage chronic illnesses and develop care plans for students with ongoing health needs.

•       Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students.

•       Monitor and support the health status of students in dormitories and throughout the school grounds, in different times of the day

•       Liaise with and support the academic wing on students’ health assessments and excused sick absences/tardiness

•       Administer prescribed medications and maintain proper records.

•       Health Education Programmes - educating students and staff on topics like nutrition, exercise, hygiene, mental health, and more

•       Identify potential health concerns and communicate with parents/guardians as needed.

•       Promote health awareness and hygiene practices through regular education sessions.

•       Liaise with local health facilities and follow up on referrals as required.

•       Maintain a constant parent-communication on their student’s health conditions

•       Ensure compliance with all health-related policies and procedures.

•       Maintain an organised and well-stocked school clinic.

•       Provide support with other boarding-related duties as required, and perform any additional responsibilities assigned by the school administration.

Skills and qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

•       Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a recognised institution.

•       Must have graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing with some work experience as a Nurse.

•       At least 2 years of professional nursing experience (experience in a school or youth setting preferred).

•       Must have knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, and techniques within a school environment to include knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, child growth/development, basic pharmacology, medical terminology, and infection control measures.

•       Must possess skills in standard nursing procedures and the ability to perform/interpret health screenings and physical examinations.

•       Must possess the ability to maintain comprehensive health records, prepare clear/concise medical reports and use appropriate computer systems.

•       Ability to quickly and competently assess medical situations and escalate as needed.

•       Must possess excellent decision-making skills

•       Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

•       Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.

•       Strong attention to detail and collaborative skills

•       Patient-oriented with exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills

•       Be a self-starter or self-motivated.

•       Must be first aid and CPR trained
