Job Objective

The TSFP Nurse is responsible for improving the nutritional status of vulnerable communities by treating moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and preventing further deterioration. This includes the provision of therapeutic food, routine medications, health and nutrition education, and supporting the Woreda Health Office in the effective management of moderate acute malnutrition.
Key Responsibilities
Objective 1: Ensure Effective Implementation of TSFP Activities
- Plan and organize TSFP activities at Community , health centers and posts in coordination with other nutrition team.
- Develop an actionable plan for efficient TSFP implementation in consultation with the Senior Nutrition Officer
- Provide ongoing supportive supervision to Health Workers (HWs), Health Extension Workers (HEWs), and Food Distribution Agents (FDAs).
- Ensure accurate anthropometric measurements of children and adherence to admission, discharge, and transfer criteria.
- Oversee health assessments and treatments according to national protocols.
- Review reporting forms for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure strict compliance with national guidelines by HWs/HEWs/FDAs.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure timely pre-positioning of medical and food supplies.
- Collaborate with CMAM Nurses to ensure smooth referrals and consistent understanding of program protocols.
- Report any supply quality or quantity issues to the Senior Nutrition Officer.
- Ensure proper follow-up and referral for non-admitted cases with clear communication to caregivers.
- Actively follow up on absentees, long-stay cases, underperforming children, and those with social issues.
- Provide on-the-job training to frontline health staff on key health and education messages.
- Support technical inquiries at TSFP sites and offer assistance to Woreda Health Office staff as needed.
- Assist in compiling statistical data from health facilities.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with local authorities and community leaders.
- Engage with various community groups and facilitate periodic meetings.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintain clear communication and reporting on progress and challenges related to assigned tasks.
- Report any professional concerns or issues to the Senior Nutrition Officer.
- Uphold Islamic Relief’s staff regulations, values, and code of conduct at all times.
- Be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic work environment.
Skills and qualifications
Personal Specification
Formal Education/Qualification and Work Experience
- Qualified Nurse in Degree and Diploma with at least two years and four years of professional experience of emergency nutrition work (preferably CMAM) respectively
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate with Woreda Health Offices and community health structures.
- Prior experience in NGO settings is an added advantage.
- Willingness to travel frequently to remote villages and stay in the field under challenging conditions.
- Competence in preparing clear and concise program reports.
- Excellent spoken and written English languages; and local language (Somali) is Mandatory
