Project Overview

The Consultant will be tasked to undertake a feasibility study to identify viable income-generating activities (IGAs) in Baidoa, Somalia. The study aims to assess potential IGAs that the branch can implement to enhance its economic self-reliance. By identifying and

analyzing these opportunities, the branch seeks to improve its capacity to deliver services, support and empower the community in the region, Bay region.

  Objectives

The main objective of this consultancy is to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study on potential income-generating activities for SRCS Baidoa Branch.

The study will:

1.      Identify and analyze various potential IGAs.

2.      Assess the market potential for each identified IGA.

3.      Evaluate the socio-economic and cultural appropriateness of the proposed IGAs.

4.      Provide recommendations for the most viable IGAs.

5.      Develop a business plan for the recommended IGAs.

Scope of Work

The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

·         Review existing literature, reports, and data on Income Generating Activities (IGAs) in The branch context and similar contexts.

·         Analyze the current socio-economic conditions of area

·         Conduct a field visit to the branch town.

·         Must stay 15-20 days in Baidoa and do a thorough market assessment and meetings with Key informants such as business communities, government regulation buddies etc 

·         Assess the activities and best practices available

·         Use qualitative and quantitative methods to gather data on potential IGAs.

·         Analyze market conditions, supply chains and demand for products/services.

·         Assess the skills, resources, and capacities of the staff, and the branch to engage in IGAs.

·         Organize focus group discussions and interviews with branch other stakeholders.

·         Gather insights on cultural acceptance and potential challenges of proposed IGAs.

·         Evaluate the technical, financial and operational feasibility of identified IGAs.

·         Conduct SWOT analysis for each potential IGA.

·         Prepare a comprehensive report detailing findings, analysis, and recommendations.

·         Develop an implementation plan for the most viable IGAs, including required resources, and legal compliance, and timelines.

Skills and qualifications

Qualifications

Education

Advanced degree in Economics, Business Administration, Development Studies, or related field.

Experience

At least 5 years of experience in conducting feasibility studies and market research.

Proven experience in business plan development in urban settings.

Strong knowledge of the socio-economic context of region.

Skills

Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Language    

Fluency in English and Somali.
