Location: Bosaso, Somalia and 30% at a field location.

Merit is recruiting on behalf of our client, a reputable and growing company operating in the mining industry headquartered in Bosaso. The organization is committed to excellence, sustainability, and contributing to the local economy through responsible mining practices. To support their continued growth and strengthen their supply chain and procurement function, we are seeking a talented and experienced professional for the position of Procurement Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end procurement processes, including sourcing, supplier negotiations, purchase order issuance, and contract management to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to secure competitive pricing, favorable terms, and reliable delivery schedules.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to forecast procurement needs and align purchasing strategies with operational requirements and production plans.
  • Monitor market trends, identify new suppliers, and assess potential risks and opportunities in the supply chain.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements in all procurement activities.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, reliability, and service, and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and prepare reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and supplier performance for management review.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of procurement policies, processes, and systems to improve efficiency and transparency.
  • Support sustainability and local content initiatives by identifying opportunities to source locally where possible.
  • Participate in audits related to procurement and address any audit findings in a timely manner.

Skills and qualifications

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in procurement or supply chain (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) is an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the mining, extractive, or heavy industry sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, contract management, and vendor relations.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement or ERP software (e.g., Odoo ERP) and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a dynamic work environment.
